FAQs

  • Q. What is New Era Introducing?
  • A: New Era Introducing is a global creative project showcasing unique talent from across the world. The project gives creative minds of tomorrow an opportunity to make their own statement using a blank New Era 59FIFTY as their canvas. Those judged to show the most unique display of self-expression will go on to form a touring gallery exhibition and be published in a limited edition New Era Introducing book.

Phase One

  • Q: Who can enter?
  • A: Anyone at least aged 18 years old as at the date and time you submit an entry for Phase One of the Competition, and who is based in either the United States or Canada (excluding Montreal and Quebec) with the ambition of making their career in a creative industry.
  • Q: How do I advance to Phase Two of the Competition?
  • A: From all the entries uploaded in Phase One, 100 total submissions will be accepted to advance to Phase 2.

Phase Two

  • Q: Why design a 59FIFTY?
  • A: New Era is an international lifestyle brand that represents self-expression, customization and creativity. As such, what better canvas for artists to unleash their creative vision and showcase their unique talent than the brand’s signature silhouette; the New Era 59FIFTY (best known as the official on-field cap of Major League Baseball).
  • Q: When do I get the blank 59FIFTY cap?
  • A: Once the deadline for initial entries has been reached; New Era will select a shortlist of 100 total artists who will be contacted to confirm their details ahead of a blank 59FIFTY in a commemorative box being sent to them.
  • Q: If I make the shortlist, how long do I get to finish my creation?
  • A: You can start working on the plans and preparation for your design as soon as you have been notified that you have been selected for the shortlist. Once you receive the blank 59FIFTY cap you will have two weeks to complete your creation and capture the creative process behind it.
  • Q: What do you mean by “capture the creative process”?
  • A: For New Era Introducing we are also interested in understanding the creative process behind each 59FIFTY design. Our judges will be looking at this when selecting the finalists and winner, so all participants will need to capture the thought process behind their final creation in order to display this alongside their artwork. The medium in which the creative process is captured, recorded, or visualized is entirely up to the artist, as long as it can be easily reviewed on the judging day.
  • Q: Do I have to use the art supplies included in the box with my blank 59FIFTY?
  • A: We have included a few art supplies and a video camera in the box but these are simply gifts to help aid creativity. We do not require you to use them in your final creation. Please feel free to keep them.
  • Q: I’ve lost / damaged my blank 59FIFTY, can I get another?
  • A: Unfortunately, due to timing restraints, we can only send out one blank 59FIFTY per shortlisted participant. Therefore it is essential that you treat yours with the respect it deserves!
  • Q: How do I send my 59FIFTY creation back to New Era?
  • A: New Era will take care of all shipping costs and provide a return label that will allow you to send the 59FIFTY cap back to us at no charge to yourself. You do not need to use the original commemorative box as the return container and can re-package your creation before sending it back; just make sure it is well protected so it reaches us in one piece.
  • Q: What will my entry be judged on?
  • A: We are looking for entries that demonstrate the artist to be a unique creative mind of the future. We will be judging the creative process behind the design, as well as the final 59FIFTY piece itself. We are looking for participants who manage to think outside the box and surprise us with something we haven’t seen before.
  • Q: How many winners are there?
  • A: 80 of the 100 entrants, who advanced to Phase 2, will be included in a travelling gallery exhibition and published in a limited edition New Era Introducing book. One overall winner will receive a $10,000 grant with the intent of kick-starting their career in a creative industry.
  • Q: Where/when will the exhibitions be taking place?
  • A: “Exhibitions will take place in Miami,LA, Chicago, Toronto and  New York City. Specific dates and locations will be announced soon.
  • Q: Do I have to pay to visit the exhibition?
  • A: No. The exhibition will be free to anybody and everybody to visit, so make sure you drop by if it comes to a city near you and check out the incredible work from our finalists.
